Immerse yourself in a complete truffle hunting Florence day trip, combining nature, Tuscan gastronomy, wine tasting and the medieval charm of San Gimignano.
The experience begins at Florence Santa Maria Novella railway station, where you will meet the driver and travel by comfortable 7-passenger van through the Tuscan countryside to the woods near San Gimignano.
Here, you will meet a local truffle hunter and trained dogs for an authentic truffle hunting experience. After a short introduction to seasonal truffles and the important role of the dogs, you will enter the woods in search of fresh truffles hidden beneath the soil.
Every exploration is different, and although the quantity of truffles found may vary, the excitement of following the dogs and discovering this precious ingredient is always part of the experience.
At the end of the truffle hunt, each participant will receive a few fresh truffles, together with useful advice on how to preserve, prepare and enjoy them at their best.
After the hunt, you will travel to Tenuta Torciano, where the experience continues with a gourmet Tuscan truffle lunch and a guided tasting of wines, olive oils and balsamic vinegar.
The lunch begins with Tuscan cheeses, cured meats, bruschetta and traditional appetizers. You will then enjoy tagliolini with truffle or truffle lasagna, followed by roast meat with potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The meal concludes with cantuccini biscuits paired with a sweet dessert wine.
During lunch, you will taste a wide selection of Tuscan wines, which may include Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Chianti Classico, Morellino di Scansano, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, rosé and selected Super Tuscan labels.
The tasting also includes extra virgin olive oil, truffle olive oil, spicy pepper olive oil and Gold Reserve balsamic vinegar. The winery staff will explain the characteristics of each product and the best food pairings.
After lunch, the van will take you to the historic centre of San Gimignano, where you will have approximately one hour of free time to explore independently. Walk through its medieval streets, admire the famous towers, visit Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo, browse artisan shops or enjoy the panoramic views over the Tuscan countryside.
At the end of the visit, you will meet the driver for the return journey to Florence.
